Wingspan Consulting Pte Ltd has partnered with fintech startup Pinoy Luminaries in producing a financial literacy training program for overseas migrant and returning workers.

Pinoy Luminaries’ pioneering platform aims to improve the lives of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) through digital credit and be a venue Filipinos abroad to help fellow Filipinos back home.
In more than 20 sessions, the financial literacy program tackles issues of interest to overseas and returning Filipino workers and those planning to work abroad. These include living and working overseas, possible business ideas for returning OFWs, literacy training for vulnerable workers, and how to spot legitimate recruiters from the fake ones.
“The core of Wingspan’s work focuses on ethical recruitment and sustainable hiring. We want to ensure our deployed workers receive fair and humane treatment while they work to build better lives for their families back home,” explains Wingspan founder Cristina Castaneda.
“But more than improving the lives of Filipino families, our ultimate goal should be that one day our overseas workers come home and give back the knowledge and skills they’ve harnessed and honed during their time abroad. This partnership with Pinoy Luminaries is a step in that direction.”
One of the recent workshops organized by Pinoy Luminaries and Wingspan is “Financial Literacy for OFWs: An Overview” with speaker Alexander Aquino, himself a former OFW, who shared from his decades of experience in financial services and as director of a number of transnationals.
In this pocket workshop, Aquino distilled in an hour’s session the fundamentals of financial literacy that OFWs can apply to their daily lives. These included setting SMART goals, needs versus wants, simple savings tips, budgeting, and growing money by going into business or through active and passive investments.
Details of future training sessions can be found on the Pinoy Luminaries Facebook page.
